Blackberry mobile devices are the ideal solution for remote email access. Instead of waiting for your emails to arrive or download, Blackberry devices receive emails using “Push” technology this means as soon as you get a message it is pushed to the phone. Most other mobile phones use “Pull” technology which means the phone itself checks on the internet periodically to see if there are any messages waiting, this uses more battery and data.

Most personal Blackberry® smartphones come with the BIS bolt on. This gives access for basic email and internet usage. The main disadvantages with BIS are that calenders cannot be syncronised wirelessly with Microsoft Outlook and email albeit “Push” technology can take up to 15 minutes to arrive.

The next step up is the Blackberry® Enterprise Server (BES) bolt on. This is complemented by a piece of software that runs in most cases on your Exchange server. With BES you get wireless access to email, business data, the Internet, shared contacts, calendar info and more.

Blackberry® Enterprise Server also provides your organization with hands-on control over its BlackBerry smartphones:

• Limit long-distance calling to certain employees or certain numbers.
• Disable the BlackBerry smartphone browser, or prevent access to certain sites.
• Enforce back-ups of data at intervals defined by you.
